WELCOME!
RAI was launched in 1999 by London Arts (now Arts Council England, London) to support and develop the artistic and cultural activity to be found within London's refugee communities. Since May 2004 RAI activates independently but in close collaboration with other specialist organizations.
For
nearly 10 years, The Initiative, brings together artists, refugees, organizations and opportunities dedicated to transform life's challenges and celebrate in diversity Freedom, Peace and Love.
Artists’ Exchange Day launched in November 1999 became a regular and extremely popular forum not only for many refugee and non-refugee artists but also for sponsors and employers of arts.
The Initiative’s intention is to support refugees and exiled artists who wish to continue and use their professional development and contribute to the cultural wealth of this country, and to bring them together with organizations and individuals who share an interest in, and a commitment to the work of artists in exile and refugee integration. Continued targeted provision is crucial for these artists in order to ensure that they can build new artistic and social groups in a supportive environment. RAI was created as a unique network of social and creative support as an answer to this huge demand.
In response to artistic and political development, the activities of the Initiative have gone from strength to strength. The Refugees and the Arts Initiative became increasingly concerned with engaging with a wider interface, in public policy debate, as well as in the raising the profile and lifting a professional status of refugees and exiled artists.
The role of the independent Refugees and the Arts Initiative is to support artists and cultural practitioners, who are refugees or asylum seekers, and to be a bridge between them and arts organisations, venues and policy makers engaging in the field of arts, culture and refugees integration.
RAI's mission is to empower, advocate and support individuals and organizations through Arts, and foster Multicultural Wellbeing.
Since 2004 RAI has grown substantially in terms of its strategic role and in terms of the amount of projects the organisation is involved in. We strive to add value and work to mutually support other organisations that provide services to refugees. RAI is often invited to become a project partner because there is widespread recognition of the organisation’s expertise.
The Refugees and the Arts Initiative also initiates projects in order to profile exiled artists and promote the field of ‘Refugee Arts’.
Even bearing the stiff cuts for the Arts and Refugee funding in London, RAI is confident to have survived and be stronger in spirit than ever before.
Currently RAI invigorates itself and it's incorporated SONGs-Self-Otganized-Networking-Groups, and uses arts in their matter and spirit, for Ethical Business, Greener Environment and Human Values.
As an experienced and creative agency, RAI is a Lead for multicultural connection and innovation.
